The reliability and availability of our rail vehicles are essential to the smooth and safe running and profit generation of any rail operation. Passenger expectations for higher standards of comfort and technology create challenges for the operator and train maintainer alike. Bombardier provides a portfolio of services worldwide to ensure that operators can benefit from comprehensive support in the operation of their systems.
By 2001, Bombardier Transportation had already been in charge of maintaining the Lower Saxony state public transit authority (LNVG) 'metronom' fleet for 19 years and has been acting as Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM). Bombardier Transportation is responsible for the entire project management, material planning and the coordination of processes and procedures for maintenance and service.
The 'metronom' fleet consists of 220 double-decker carriages, 28 electronic locomotives and eight diesel locomotives. Bombardier Transportation has engaged the Ost-Hannoversche-Eisenbahn Gesellschaft railway company (OHE) and the Eisenbahnen und Verkehrsbetriebe Elbe-Weser GmbH firm (EVB) for performing maintenance and service work on the vehicles. These companies have access to the necessary infrastructure and personnel at their facilities in Uelzen and Bremervörde.
In order to ensure that all maintenance and service activities will run smoothly and to make it possible to react to unplanned situations at short notice, a team of experienced project managers is stationed on site to hold detailed weekly discussions about the work to be carried out.
In 2013, Bombardier and the Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) have been extending their long-standing and successful collaboration. Together, Bombardier and BVG are ensuring the material supply for the 150 GT6 trams of BVG.
The material requirements planning for more than 400 spare parts includes the inventory management for corrective material, supplier management, component repairs, obsolescence management and the warehouse management in the BVG depots, as well as the transport and logistics of these spare parts. In doing so, Bombardier guarantees material availability of 98% for critical spare parts.
This enables us to make a significant contribution to the availability of the GT6 fleet, which forms the backbone of the tram service in Berlin.
As part of a modernisation project for Deutsche Bahn, we have successfully overhauled and modernised the double-decker carriages from the 1994 generation along with our consortium partner EuroMaint. This involved us completely renovating the interior of the vehicles as well as the exterior colour scheme. The modernised double-decker carriages have an operative availability of more than 99% and ensure that Deutsche Bahn can provide its passengers with a safe and convenient service for the upcoming years.
Since 1994, Bombardier Transportation has provided full operations and maintenance services for the 3.8-kilometre (2.4-mile) dual-lane people-mover system INNOVIA APM 100, which is named SkyLine in Frankfurt and includes 18-vehicle.
This completely automated system has covered more than 15.2 million kilometres in the last 20 years and transported millions of air passengers – always in a safe and reliable manner. It never fails to exceed the contractually guaranteed availability of 99.65% and achieves an average availability of 99.8%
