  • Metros

With the innovative BOMBARDIER MOVIA metro, we provide transport companies with a completely modular design concept offering hourly capacities of between 10,000 and 80,000 passengers per direction of travel.

Metros which were designed or constructed at Bombardier Transportation’s German sites are, for example, currently in service in:

    • Germany (Berlin, Hamburg and Munich)
    • China (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen)
    • Singapore
    • India (Delhi)

You can find further reference projects here.

  • Commuter and Regional Trains

Bombardier Transportation offers a range of solutions for connecting cities and regions. Germany takes on the design and production of, for instance, single-deck multiple units such as the well-known BOMBARDIER TALENT family and the BOMBARDIER TWINDEXX double-deck coaches.
    Vehicle projects include:

    • Since 1990 more than 2,300 double-deck coaches for Deutsche Bahn and numerous double-deck trains for Poland, Israel, Luxembourg and Denmark. Current projects include the development of a new generation of TWINDEXX double-deck trains for Deutsche Bahn’s regional and main line transport as well as the innovative TWINDEXX Swiss Express for Switzerland.
    • More than 1,500 TALENT Classic coaches for Germany, Austria, Hungary, Norway and Canada.
    • The electric multiple unit family, series ET 423, 424-426 and 422, for suburban and regional transport as well as ET 430 series multiple units in Stuttgart's suburban transport network from 2012.
    • The TALENT 2 modular design vehicle family. Deutsche Bahn has already ordered around 300 vehicles. The trains will be in service from 2011.
    • Electric and diesel multiple units for the Netherlands and Scandinavia.

  • Main Line and High Speed Trains

Bombardier main line and high speed trains set the standard when it comes to long journeys. In Europe, Bombardier Transportation is jointly responsible for 95 per cent of all high speed trains: from the German ICE to the French TGV.

    • Developed by a consortium consisting of Bombardier and Siemens, the ICE 3 provides cross-border travel at speeds of up to 330 km/h between France, the Netherlands and Germany. More than 400 of this type of train are currently in service.
    • The state-of-the-art BOMBARDIER REGINA main line train is produced in Hennigsdorf in Brandenburg and more than 100 of these trains are in operation in Sweden.
    • The BOMBARDIER CONTESSA Oresund train – also produced in Hennigsdorf – are primarily used in regional, cross-border transport in the Oresund region of Denmark and Sweden.
    • The BOMBARDIER ZEFIRO super high speed family is designed in Hennigsdorf, Brandenburg, where projects for the Chinese and Italian markets are currently under way. The ZEFIRO will reach top speeds of 380 km/h.

  • Locomotives

In order to make cross-border goods and passenger transport on Europe's railways possible, Bombardier developed the BOMBARDIER TRAXX locomotive platform 10 years ago.
A total of three types of electric locomotive and one type of diesel-electric locomotive meet the conditions and requirements of the European and trans-European rail transport – three of these locomotive variants are manufactured in Germany:

    • The TRAXX AC locomotive with alternating current drive is manufactured for Deutsche Bahn, SBB Cargo, BLS, CFL and various private rail companies in Europe as well as leasing companies such as Railpool, Alpha Trains, CB Rail and MRCE.
    • The TRAXX MS locomotive is in service for companies including Deutsche Bahn, PKP, BLS, SBB Cargo, Railpool, Alpha Trains, CB Rail and MRCE. As it is fitted with four supply voltages, it is able to travel on both the North-South and East-West axes through Europe.
    • The TRAXX DE locomotive with diesel-electric drive is in passenger transport service for the German regional operator Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen. The Havelländische Eisenbahn and the leasing company CB Rail use the TRAXX DE in goods transportation.

  • Transportation Systems

As a leading supplier of total transit systems across the world, we offer innovative solutions for cities and airports. Our transport solutions include the fully-automated driverless BOMBARDIER INNOVIA people mover (APM), advanced rapid transit (ART) and monorail systems as well as systems for light rail vehicles and trams, metros and rapid transit vehicles. The portfolio also contains communications and traffic safety systems as well as technology for optimising energy consumption. In addition, Bombardier can call upon almost 40 years worth of extensive experience in operations and maintenance.

    • Since 1994, the automated people mover system INNOVIA APM 100 has been in service at Frankfurt Airport to ensure rapid and comfortable transfers between terminals. The driverless system is used alongside the tried and tested BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 550 signalling system solution. It has an availability rate of approx. 99.8 per cent and transports millions of air travellers every year. Bombardier has been in charge of operating and maintaining the 3.8 km two-track system since it was opened.
    • As part of a pilot project, the BOMBARDIER PRIMOVE system for light rail vehicles and trams, which is contact-free and has no overhead contact wires, was installed on a test track in Augsburg in September 2010. The innovative system is based on inductive power transmission using components that are installed under the vehicles and between the tracks. The PRIMOVE technology is the unique solution for catenary-free and contact-free tram operation.

  • Services

Our comprehensive portfolio is characterised by its flexibility and the considerable added value that it offers to customers. We adapt our services to meet the exact requirements of the customer, regardless of whether those concern complete operational and maintenance services, comprehensive fleet management, materials and logistics programmes or modernisation, re-engineering and overhauling of systems, vehicles and components.

    • Frankfurt Airport: since 1994, Bombardier Transportation has been supplying operational and maintenance services for the 3.8 km two-track INNOVIA APM 100 people mover system and its 18 vehicle fleet.
    • Since 2003, Bombardier Transportation has been in charge of maintenance and repair work for the regional operator Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen mbH (LNVG). In 2009, the contracts were increased to a current total of 40 TRAXX locomotives and 220 double-deck intermediate and control coaches.
